Volunteers Serving Food

Strategy

Rural Communities Social Services Inc. will provide aid for basic necessities during an emergency or pandemic to the community.

However, a large part of our ongoing services is to  address the root cause of the social issues which is our long-term approach.

This is achieved through a strategy and working directly with stakeholders, and the community in having a voice, to improve systems in our direct and wider community.

Often people think that in order to be truly mindful we have to cleanse our minds of all perceptions or past experiences, halting or controlling our thoughts completely and existing in a chasm of unconditional positivity. This is not the case at all.  Mindfulness does not ask us to stop or control our thoughts, judgements or negative experiences. Rather, it asks that within our experiences, we simply pay attention to what is happening in the moment.  This means allowing the thoughts that are often entangled with judgements, opinions and preferences, to exist exactly as they are, observing them with compassion, awareness and non-judgement.  It is more about intention than anything; being able to turn one’s attention intentionally towards what is happening in the present and embracing this with curiosity, openness and acceptance.   In order to have full and mindful experiences in the present moment, we must firstly understand that we can separate ourselves from our thoughts.

There are many different types of mental health conditions and disorders, and a wide range of symptoms within each of them. They can be experienced on a sliding scale from mild to severe, and short-term to longer-term; with some being quite serious.

It's important for everybody to look after their wellbeing. Mental ill-health can happen to anyone, and it can strongly affect a person's behaviour, physical health, relationships, ability to do work, and even their feelings and perceptions of the world. With the right support, things can improve.

If you feel you need support, there are options available. Talking to people you trust is a first step, as is seeking professional support. Focusing on self-care and finding peers who have gone through something similar are a few other options.

Digital mental health resources can often be just as effective as talking to someone face-to-face. If you're not comfortable talking to someone in person, that may be the way to go. Whatever you choose, trust is a very important factor.
